Research Information Statement
Project Name: The Influence of Servant Leadership on Certified Knowledge
Managers Perceptions of Knowledge Management
Researcher: David B. DeHaven, Potomac Falls, Virginia
Dear Certified Knowledge Manager,
You are invited to participate in the research project identified above. The
project is being conducted by David B. DeHaven, a student at Capella
University, as part of a Ph.D. degree program. The project is being
conducted under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Michael Williams of
Capella University.
The study will be conducted in two phases and is designed to explore the
perceptions of knowledge management by certified knowledge managers.
Although the body of literature concerning knowledge management is
increasing, little to no research has been conducted on the influence of
leadership style on knowledge management. Given the lack of information in
this area, this research should add to the body of knowledge surrounding
leadership as well as knowledge management.
Participants in this study include those who have received the designation
of Certified Knowledge Manager from the Knowledge Management Institute.
Given your wealth of experience resulting from courses as well as hands on
implementations, I would like to include you in this study. The study is
comprised of two phases. Phase 1 consists of the Servant Leadership Profile
survey which can be accessed from the URL below. The profile will take
approximately 15 minutes to complete. Phase 2 of the study involves a 1-hour
interview concerning your perceptions of knowledge management. By completing
the survey and submitting your responses, you are consenting to participate
in the entire study. Participation in the research project is entirely
voluntary and you will be at no disadvantage should you decide not to
participate. All information from the survey and the subsequent will be kept
confidential. You can withdraw at any time without penalty.
After responses are received from the leadership survey, approximately 10
certified knowledge managers will be selected for participation in Phase 2
of this study. If you are selected for Phase 2, you will be asked to
participate in an in-person 1-hour interview preferably at your location.
The researcher will inquire about your perceptions of knowledge management
and will also request to observe related documents, on-line resources and
activities related to knowledge management within your organization.
Participants will not be compensated for participating.
All information provided by participants will be kept confidential and
anonymous. The final report detailing the findings will be published in a
publicly accessible dissertation database and may be also published in
professional journals. If you are selected for Phase 2 of the study which
includes an interview, you will be provided with a copy of the interview
transcript.
Thank you for considering participation in this research study. If you have
any questions about the research, this information statement detailing
consent or accessing the URL below, please contact the researcher at
703-220-6831.
Sincerely,
David B. DeHaven,
Ph.D. Candidate,
